On November 15, 2011, CEDAC organized a meeting with its core staff at the Cambodian Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC) in Phnom Penh. Kampong Speu: In cooperation with the Provincial Department of Education Youth and Sport (PDoEYS) of Kampong Speu Province, a project launching workshop was organized by CEDAC on November 17th at a meeting hall of PDoEYS. The workshop was presided over by Mr. Loeung Sophat, Deputy Provincial Governor, Mr. Yin Saroeun, Deputy Director of PDoEYS, Mr. Van Samphors, representative of Primary Education Department of MoEYS, and Mr. Sim Samoeun, Executive Director of CEDAC.
The third meeting of the Mekong Region Futures Working Group was organized on November 14-15, 2011, at Sheraton Hanoi Hotel in Viet Nam. The Mekong Futures Working Group met first in March 2011 and consists of approximately 25 people from government, private sector, and academic and civil society backgrounds. The group comprises professionals from Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam.
In early November 2011, CEDAC exported 39 tons of organic rice to the US. This is the fourth shipment to the US, CEDAC’s first shipment was in late 2010. The buyer of this rice is Lotus Foods in California, a small company engaged in selling specialty rice and supports efforts to promote SRI rice.
PREY VENG PROVINCE: On October 28, 2011, CEDAC’s project titled “Improving food security of the most vulnerable families in Prey Veng,” with funding support from the European Union (EU), provided emergency response efforts after the after flooding in that area by providing rice seeds to the farmers to prepare nine community rice seed beds in nine villages, five communes and three districts including Kampong Trobek , Preah Sdach and Baphnom.
PREY VENG PROVINCE: From October 21 - 27, 2011, CEDAC’s project titled “Improving food security of the most vulnerable families in Prey Veng,” which was funded by the European Union (EU), cooperated with the provincial department of rural development, and organized an incentive training for the project staff members and strong farmer promoters on sanitation and clean water.
CEDAC’s Program Officer, Mr. Yim Sok Sophors, and Mr. Bunna, a staff member from PLAN International Cambodia, attended a five-day regional learning workshop on the CSDRM approach from 17-21 October, 2011 in Manila, the Philippines. The purpose of the learning workshop was to ensure that PLAN’s country offices and its partners will learn from the experiences of implementing the SCR (Strengthening Climate Resilient) and CSDRM approaches.

From October 7-9, 2011, CEDAC in cooperation with two other funded organizations HKI and GAA, hosted a field visit for the European Union Delegation to Mondulkiri province. The objective of the visit was to understand the progress and impacts of the projects, implemented by CEDAC, DPA (Development Partner in Progress), and HPA (Health Poverty Action) in Kaoh Nheaek and Ou Raing district and in Saen Monorom town of Mondulkiri province.
Five CEDAC staff (including 2 women) participated in and successfully completed a week-long training facilitated by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in the Kampot Province of Cambodia. In the framework of the National Bio-digester Program (NBP), CEDAC is responsible for promoting the use of bio-digesters in four provinces, namely Kampot, Prey Veng, Kandal and Kampong Thom. Since the start in October 2007 up to the present, the numbers of monthly constructed bio-digesters have been increasing every year. For instance, the monthly constructed bio-digester in 2008 was approximately 50 and increased to 100 per month in 2008, and to around 200 per month in 2011.
MELBOURNE: From August 08 - September 09, 2011, Mr. Khim Sophanna, CEDAC’s senior program advisor, was awarded with the opportunity to participate in the short course, Integrated Water Resource Management in Australia. From July 2-5, 2011, with funding support from the European Union (EU), CEDAC’s project called “Improving Food Security for Women and Rural Poor in Mondulkiri/IFWP-MP” organized a four-day exposure visit for 58 farmers (20 of which were women) to three of CEDAC’s target provinces, Takeo, Kampong Speu and Kampot .
With funding support provided by the European Union (EU), CEDAC in cooperation with PLAN UK and PLAN Cambodia is implementing a project titled “Promoting climate resilient livelihoods for small scale farmers in most vulnerable dry land areas in Siem Reap and Kampong Cham provinces”. The project covers 325 villages, across 34 communes in 6 districts of Siem Reap and Kampong Cham provinces. In Kampong Cham province, activities are implemented in 172 villages of 13 communes in Ponhea kraek dnd Dambae districts.

SVAY RIENG: From May 29-30, 2011, CEDAC organized an exposure visit for cooperating farmers of the project “Advanced Livelihoods and Sustainable Development for Indigenous People in Ratanakiri Province, Kingdom of Cambodia” (ALDI II). In total, 6 farmers and 6 ALDI project staffs from Ratankiri travelled to visit CEDAC project in Sray Rieng province, namely Food Facility of Prey Veng and Svay Rieng project.
KAMPONG THOM: From May 26-27, 2011, the first general assembly of Farmer and Water Network (FWN) was convened at the farmer-water user community (FWUC) office of the Stung Chinit irrigation scheme in Kampong Thmar district, Kampong Thom province. In total, 23 participants (including one female) representing 12 FWUCs across eight provinces (Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Kampong Speu, Prey Veng, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Preah Sihanouk and Kandal province) were in attendance.
KAMPONG SPEU: From May 23 to June 03, 2011, CEDAC hosted its third visit from Mr. Yasuhiro Fukushima, the project donor of Happy Mountain Bird - Ensuring Access to Primary Education for Children of the Poorest Families Phase IV (HMB-IV). The visit aimed to assess the project’s progress in relation to selection of target families and target villages, recruitment of Happy Mountain Bird Promoters (HMP), provision of training support by project staff, village mapping...
KRATIE: On May 25-26, 2011, CEDAC launched a new project titled. Improving the Socio-Economic Conditions of Women in Kratie province at the district halls of Sabour and Cetr Borey districts in Kratie province. The project launching workshop was organized by CEDAC in cooperation with Cives Mundi and the two district authorities. In total, 120 participants representing commune councils, district councils, villages, government line departments and NGOs were in attendance.
